Report: Axed ‘Idol’ Hopefuls Returning to Show As “Wildcards”
If recent rumors making their way around the ‘Net are to be believed, fans might have a chance to see them on the show again this season.
According to Lyndsey Parker’s ‘Reality Rocks’ blog, reports are circulating on Internet message boards that “American Idol” plans to bring back Hernandez, Overmyer, and a number of other “Idol” rejectee favorites from this season during the April 9 “Idol Gives Back” charity special, where they will have a chance to earn a spot as a wild-card on this summer’s “Idol” tour.
There is no official confirmation of these reports from “Idol” producers, as of this writing.
However, fans might recall that a different kind of wild-card vote during season two of the top-rated reality television series, one held just prior to the announcement of the official contestant lineup, helped to catapult Clay Aiken along the road to worldwide second-place stardom.
So, although these ex-contestants have lost out at a chance to win the official “Idol” title, the attention that goes along with a spot on the series’ successful summer tour might serve as the extra push that could help to raise their budding solo careers to new heights.
