The Nashville International Song & Lyric Competition®

Time is running out…
The Nashville International
Song & Lyric Competition®

It all ends October 31.

First Prize: $500 in cash & prizes

Monthly Prizes: Guitar or Piano-Vocal Demos

20 Monthly Prizes of $20 Rebate Certificates
good on any new demo recording

This is Fall Fever time in Nashville. Everybody has heard of Spring Fever. It is supposed to be a lazy, laid-back time. But Fall Fever in Nashville is totally different. It is a time to get up and go! For recording artists, it is time to get up and go for new songs to record. For songwriters, it is time to get up and go write some new songs to satisfy the artists who are looking hard for songs to record NOW.

Important: Here is the MAJOR difference in this competition and all others: We actually PITCH great songs to music-business professionals. Some contests list judges like presidents of major record companies and recording artists who have sold millions of records. Do you really believe such important people are going to spend hours and days of their time listening to and reading thousands of entries to any contest? We seriously doubt it. But at Paramount, we have judges who are highly trained in picking songs with potential. And when they find them, they bring them to the attention of our people whose job is to pitch songs regularly to artists, producers and A&R execs.

Here is how the Paramount Nashville International competition works: Any writer who has never had a song recorded by a major label may enter up to four songs or lyrics each month through October 31. We have made the entry fee especially low: Only $20 per song or lyric; just enough to cover administrative costs.

To enter, here is all you need to do: Send or upload your original songs or lyrics, written or co-written by you, along with the appropriate entry fee, and you are on your way. You’ll find more entry details by clicking the link to our website below.

This is a great chance for you to make it big, with your name on an award-winning song. But you must enter very soon to get in. The FINAL deadline to upload or mail your entry is the last day of this month. Mailed entries must be postmarked by October 31, but have until November 15 to arrive.

So hurry! Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to get your Award-Winning song in the hands of people who can get it recorded. And perhaps get it on its way toward earning fame and fortune just like all the great songs throughout musical history.

Some additional rules: Each entry will be included in the contest for the month in which we receive it, except those received after October 31, but by Novembeer 15. Those will be included in the final month. To be included in the Grand and First prize competition, entries must be uploaded, postmarked or carrier dated no later than October 31, 20078, and received no later than November 15, 2007. Winners names will be available on our web site after November 30, 2007.

–Music News for Indie Artists—

–Music News for Indie Artists—]

Contact: Kenny Love, President
The KEL Group
(936)545-0381
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The KEL Group Currently Signing Indie Recording Artists
CROCKETT, Texas - - October 27, 2007 - - The KEL Group,
a new independent recording company owned by veteran
recording artist, promoter and publicist Kenny Love, is
currently seeking to sign independent recording artists who
require but cannot afford or do not have the time to conduct
promotion and publicity individually on a global scale.
Love, who is also president of MuBiz.com, a widely popular
independent promotion and publicity firm says, “Even
though many of the aspects of becoming successful with a
music career have now significantly eased up for the
independent musician, such as production and distribution,
promotion and publicity, and basically getting the word out
to the contacts that matter are still challenging.  With our
worldwide database that contains thousands of print, online,
radio and television contacts, along with our years of
experience, we feel we can be extremely beneficial to
independent artists.”
The KEL Group is also utilizing an UN-traditional approach
compared to record labels of the past, in that it is not
seeking to control or own every aspect of an artist’s career.
Alternately, the agreement that artists sign with the label
are only one to two pages in length, with stipulations
spelled out in easy everyday language.
Love adds, “I came up through the ranks of the Music
industry as a musician and recording artist, and I know
firsthand the pains of a contract that appears to be a book
in form.  Therefore, our agreement is the bare minimum
possible, in terms of our agreement’s content.  And, in
exchange for our worldwide/international full-scale
marketing, promotion and publicity services provided to
artists, we are simply requesting a compensation of a
fifty-fifty (50/50) sales split on artists’ digital downloads
while artists are still free to continue enjoying all of their
other sales, such as with CDs, without the need to share
their profits with our label.  Likewise, we are not requiring
artists to give up any of their publishing royalties or any
other royalties to us as other labels do.”
To learn how effective and the positive results that Kenny
Love’s MuBiz.com promotion and publicity firm has been for
its own clients, see what its clients are saying at
Also, to see what readers of Kenny’s “B# Newsletter” say
about his knowledge and experience of Music promotion
and publicity, please visit http://www.MuBiz.com/writetst.html
Independent recording artists who dread the thought of
having to competitively market, promote and publicize their
music, which takes a large amount of time, are encouraged
to contact Kenny Love via telephone at (936)545-0381, via

AIRPLAY DIRECT FEATURED ARTISTS
FOR OCTOBER

Listen to and download “broadcast-quality” tracks at http://www.airplaydirect.com/DeanaCarter
Award-winning singer/songwriter/performer Deana Carter unveils The Chain, her fifth studio record October
9th on Vanguard Records.

Each of the 12 songs on The Chain has a special importance to Deana, who personally chose material

that had a great impact on her early life. She took the same care in recruiting collaborators for the project, assembling a group of musicians who influenced her as an artist — none more greatly than her father,
legendary session player Fred Carter, Jr, who performs throughout the album. “Ever since I knew that music
was going to be my life’s path, I’ve wanted to pay tribute to my dad and to the artists who were so good to
me and my family. The camaraderie between them, and the way they took our family and made it part of
their families, was so unique that I wanted to recapture it for a little while,” states Deana.

The Chain features duets with Deana and some of country music’s royalty: Kris Kristofferson (Help Me

Make It Through The Night), Dolly Parton (Love Is Like A Butterfly), Jessi Colter (I’m Not Lisa), Willie
Nelson (On The Road Again), George Jones (He Thinks I Still Care) and John Anderson (Swingin’). The
CD also includes two of music’s rising stars, Shooter Jennings on “Good Hearted Woman”, the song
made famous by his father, the great Waylon Jennings, and Harper Simon on “The Boxer,” a nod to his
Dad, Paul Simon who plays guitar on this track. The Chain also features stunning solo recordings of
Deana performing such classics as “Lay Lady Lay”, “The Weight”, “Crying” and “Old Man”.
Listen to and download “broadcast-quality” tracks at http://www.airplaydirect.com/1rko
In our current landscape singers don’t sing, they lip-sync and players don’t play, they pantomime to backing tracks. Many artists act as if it’s an imposition to perform to their fans, and it shows. Enter First Round
Knockout aka 1RKO, with over 100,000 hits on their website, 1RKO is proving that authenticity does matter.
With raw musicality, infectious energy and the purpose to headline stadiums this band is at the peak of their expression staking out the territory where talent does make a difference.

The name 1RKO comes from the notion and the mission of re-creating the original larger than life experience

that rock n roll is supposed to bring, an explosion of strength, and emotion. When asked to describe their approach to their work they see it as a process of discovery where you are naked, authentic, ignore trends
and take the bull by the horns. Whether it’s Simon belting one of his scorching melodic vocals or furiously
playing lead guitar, Brian shaking the ground with his larger than life bass, Derek making your hair stand up
with his tone from hell or Rich banging the hell out of his drum kit, 1RKO is the real deal. A band that can
really play with chops to bring the house down.

Listen to and download “broadcast-quality” tracks at http://www.airplaydirect.com/DubStationReggaeArtists

Dub Station is both long established (over a decade) and up-and-coming (still broadening its global support
base).

Having won awards, performed internationally (including twice this year in Jamaica) - backed dozens of

regional & touring acts (including Abijah, Everton Blender + many more) - as well as having hosted or acted
as support for most of the big names in the business (Jimmy Cliff to the Wailers, Toots to Buju Banton and
Beres Hammond), Dub Station is a club & Festival favorite.
Listen to and download “broadcast-quality” tracks at http://www.airplaydirect.com/CaliforniaTransitAuthority
California Transit Authority (CTA) is drummer Danny Seraphine’s trip back to the future, effectively tipping his
hat to his past with his feet firmly planted in the here and now. Aptly titled ‘Full Circle’, CTA’s debut album
brings Seraphine back to his roots.
While CTA revisits early Chicago classics “I’m A Man,” “Make Me Smile” and “Colour My World” on FULL CIRCLE, CTA isn’t just a nostalgia trip. For example, “Make Me Smile” has been transformed into an instrumental, with Bonilla recreating the vocal lines on guitar. In addition, the guitarist has also re-imagined
many of Chicago’s classic horn parts on his guitar. Another twist is vocalist Braggs, the voice of Tower of
Power since 2000.
Listen to and download “broadcast-quality” tracks at http://www.airplaydirect.com/CountRidicula
Romance is what’s on this vampire’s mind. A once-a-year occurrence for this guy, the character Count
Ridicula is induced annually by the practice of dressing as a vampire for Halloween. This unsuspecting
everyday Joe undergoes a total transformation and goes trick-or-treating … one night every year.

A little about the Many Moods of Music:

Many Moods of Music offers complete music production and audio services.  While working with Producer,
Musician and Engineer Trevor Sugar, there are great vibes in the studio just north of Ft. Lauderdale.
Composing, arranging, recording, remixing a finished piece, or scoring a film is where you’ll find the crew.

Many Moods of Music has helped developed several roots and dancehall artists, including Alkebulan,
receiving heavy airplay on JA and UK radio. Clients, including the AirPlay Direct contest winner, need only
place a studio mix of the winning song in the hands of MMM for the remix treatment to begin.

With cannon fire bass, bullet time drums, and guitars that will coax you to sleep before bombarding your
senses, Modico take the stage as if it were a battlefield.  Steadfast and ready for action, this band has an
objective that exceeds superficial stardom.  Modico is concerned with the world they see, and passionately
try to do their part to facilitate its improvement.  They see a lot of fear in the world today and an
overabundance of depression.  Hopelessness plagues many people and deceives them into believing that
this life is pain.  Modico is at war with that mentality.  Hope does exist; that’s the message the band wants
to share with anyone who is willing to listen.  Modico recently finished recording its debut full length album,
Axe At My Feet.  The band hopes to produce art that the ear begs to hear and the soul yearns to feel.

“Modico is a perfect example of Indie Rock at its best.  They are a smart, relevant, engaging and explosive
force that has the talent and dedication to step easily onto the national stage.  I expect that you will be
hearing a lot about this band in the coming months.  Record labels would be wise to take a very serious look
at this act if they are currently looking for new artists.”  Robert Weingartz, CEO - AirPlay Direct

Throughout the month of August, AirPlay Direct and our Sponsors Gorgeous PR, Arketype Film,
Apples and Cats Media and CDman ran our first ”All Things Digital College / Alt. Rock” artist contest
for our members.  The winning band Modico will receive the Grand Prize package which will include:
  • An 8 week national PR / media relations campaign (print and online) and an internet radio campaign from Gorgeous PR ($10,000 value)
  • Arketype Film, Inc. will produce a music video for the winning band in a completely custom and tailored

    manner ($12,000 value)
  • A 12 week national radio promotions campaign to 500 College radio stations from Apples And Cats Media

    ($3,600 value)
  • A merchandise package from CDman that includes 500 professionally replicated CDs in jewel boxes, 100

full color posters and 25 digitally printed t-shirts ($1,000 value)
  • A premier “Featured Artist” advertising package from AirPlay Direct ($1,500 value)
The Grand Prize Package is valued at $28,000.00…!

a’tris is a band that seems to never rest.  Following the completion of their national tour in 2006, the band
immediately began working on new material.  They digitally released the single ‘Orion’ in January and the
EP ‘Of the Commons’ was released on Mark Records in August.  This is the bands second release on Mark
Records.  Mason Taylor, who is a’tris’ front man, keyboardist and primary songwriter, said the band is “very
fortunate to be able to release their debut and follow-up EP” on Mark Records.  Mark Records has worked
with such musical icons as the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, and countless others.  The company has
been awarded over sixty (60) Grammy Entry List appearances, and two Grammy Nominations.

Hope & Glory - Ann Wilson’s first solo album ever - is a singularly powerful and altogether timely song cycle
that speaks eloquently to our troubled times.

The world has long known Heart’s Ann Wilson as one of the greatest and most enduring vocalists of her

generation.  Yet on her ultimately hopeful and glorious solo debut for Zoë/ Rounder Records to be released
on September 11, 2007, Wilson is likely to stun even her lifelong fans with what could fairly be called the
mother of all cover albums.

On Hope & Glory, Wilson manages to reinterpret and reinvent some of the greatest songs of the past forty

years that powerfully and poignantly reflect the here and now, including classics from the Sixties (Bob
Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall”, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising”, The Animals’
“We’ve Gotta Get Out Of This Place”, and The Youngbloods’ “Get Together”), and Seventies (Led Zeppelin’s
“Immigrant Song”, John Lennon’s “Isolation”, and Elton John’s “Where To Now, St. Peter”) to gems of a
more recent vintage like “War Of Man” by Neil Young and “Jackson” by Lucinda Williams.  Hope & Glory
concludes with one heartbreakingly moving new song written by Ann herself, “Little Problems, Little Lies”,
yet one listen to the album demonstrates that Wilson has made each of the songs here very much her own
and utterly relevant to our world today.

It’s been quite a year for DOTMIG in the music biz, with a 16 track double album that is just being released
& many accolades picked up on this road to emerging as an artist that has the consistency of delivering
diversified sound, with his passion & integrity towards his valuable music from his repertoire. Working
together with Latin Grammy Award Winner Guido Diaz, has made DOTMIG the musician, singer, songwriter
& performer who he is today.  Last but not least the beautiful & talented muse of DOTMIG’S family, singer,
songwriter, musician, Diana Pabon (aka SEXY-N-LEAN), diagramed the perfect blueprint for Mig Fighter
Missions Music to take off.

Shotgun Honeymoon’s debut album Foregone Conclusion, produced by Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow) is being
released September 11, 2007 on Broken Halo Records.
“The chance to express emotions and give them a visual through lyrics and music is the best feeling in
the world. The only thing better than that is when people stop what they are thinking, stop what they are
doing and get lost in your world as well as you can portray it, with a simple melody and a little poetry…
and understand it.”  Shotgun Honeymoon
Listen to and download “broadcast-quality” tracks at http://www.airplaydirect.com/WilliamSteffey
William Steffey continues to be at the forefront of the “post-modern rock” movement: effortlessly integrating
honest rock, pop sensibility, and edgy electronica with distant echoes of jazz.  Atop the music ride engaging
yet intelligent lyrics, tagging the listener at unexpected depths.
Steffey’s latest release, “Romance of the Spaceways”, has been spinning in commercial rotation in the U.S.
and has quickly become a favorite of several UK college heads of music-resulting in recent adds across the
pond.  WS is also hot in Central America, where the album is playing on an archipelago of stations across
Costa Rica and Nicaragua.  The 12 song CD, propelled by its ethereal-pop single ‘Sanctuary’, will be serviced
to college stations in the United States with an add date of September 4th.

New Berklee Music Marketing 101 Class

New Berklee Music Marketing 101 Class

A couple of weeks ago I hinted that a big
announcement was coming. Well, now I can make it
official. I’m proud to say that I have developed
an online course for the renowned Berklee
College of Music
in Boston.

The 12-week course, called “Music Marketing 101,”
launches Oct. 1. In addition to creating the
course, I will also be the online instructor.
Read all about it at
www.bob-baker.com/buzz/berklee.html

It’s an honor to be part of the Berklee family.
Quincy Jones, Melissa Etheridge, Aimee Mann,
John Mayer, Diana Krall, Steve Vai, Donald Fagen,
John Scofield, Bruce Cockburn, Kevin Eubanks and
Branford Marsalis are just some of the high-
profile names that have attended there.

While I never imagined being a part of academia
when I started on this path 15 years ago, it’s
immensely gratifying to be among such great
company with such a powerhouse educational
institution.

Don’t worry, though. You won’t have to start
calling me Professor Baker. After all, the
“guerrilla” music marketing guy has to keep his
edge. But, come to think of it, “Dr. Indie” has
a nice ring to it :-)

Again, check out the “Music Marketing 101″ course
description here.
